If you are a steak novice, aside from saying that you've been missing out big time, we will recommend that you begin this magical journey with Gaucho. The aesthetics in this swanky London export are an ode to the love for meat. Cow hide, dim lights and cool interiors will set the mood for the evening. However, Gaucho is not just a pretty face: this (m)eaterie also packs a red-blooded punch.

You will be introduced to different cuts of steaks and the helpful staff will aid your choices, recommending the marinades, the sides and the vino that should accompany your meat. The pièce de résistance for us was the rump steak and the rib eye steak - the Churrasco de Ancho - which was uncomplicated, buttery soft, and vividly memorable weeks after the meal.

One feels spoilt for choice in this steakhouse, which offers an epic steak, chops and grill selection. JW Steakhouse will make your dreams of chomping down a hefty slab of deliciously juicy steak a reality: the restaurant is notorious for its preparation of the various cuts of meat to pure perfection. The wooden, gentleman's club-like vintage décor enhances the experience, and the minute you enter this old-school place you feel at home.

Hold on to this one, because it has been consistently great for years on end, and the incredibly knowledgeable staff give no indication of that changing.

We cannot describe The SoHo Grill as anything other than hip: the drinks are served in mason jars, the interiors comprise of wooden palettes and steel, and the steaming hot grilled chunks of steak rest in a puddle of its own sumptuous jus on wooden slabs. This place is ideal for those feeling a pinch in their pockets who believe that quality steak equates to splashing out excess cash.

Head over to one of the SoHo outlets with your fellow cavemen friends on a weekend for that ultimate, no-fuss New York-style urban experience. You also have the option to prepare your food; they will bring a sizzling hot volcanic stone to your table and with help from the ultra friendly staff, you can cook your meat to your preferred "doneness". 

 

Ruth's Chris Steak HouseRuth’s Chris Steak House

Recommended dish: Braised Short Ribs, Tender Corn-fed Midwestern Beef Fillet.

Ruth’s Chris uses USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) prime beef, the most premium quality meat from the States, which is aged for at least 28 days. The quality of the ingredients here is apparent with every bite.

The restaurant will transport you back to Louisiana with its live Jazz music, its warm and welcoming service and its generous portions. It is the perfect place to dine at with a few friends over the weekend or with your date; you won't need to worry because their menu perfectly describes the cuts of steak and recommends how they should be cooked. Whilst they do first class meats, be sure to try their signature Voodoo shrimps and the authentic American cheesecake... yummy!

 

Toro ToroToro Toro 

Recommended dish: the 650g Churrasco Skewer for Two
Cuisine: Latin American / Peruvian

A giant statue of a toro (bull) will welcome you to Toro Toro the moment you enter, and this dramatic reception will set the tone for the rest of your evening. Fiery interiors, buzzing ambience, and an excited crowd commands the night and you cannot help but cave in to the infectious vibe.

Start your Peruvian journey by ordering the Empanada pastries made from the spicy, garlicky Chorizo. For your mains, go for the 650g Churrasco Skewer for Two (with the Brazilian style Picanha steak and Wagyu Rib Eye Steak). Cooked with great aplomb, the steaks here are creamy soft in its buttery richness. The dripping juices and the chimichurri sauce can be mopped up by steaming hot roasted potatoes which will guarantee you have a fiesta in your mouth.

This place offers nothing but the finest selection of steak in the city. Melt-in-your mouth morsels of meat and intensely flavourful sides will sway every purist to the meatopia that is The Rib Room. The décor is a subtle, classy nod to the carnivores within us, with the animal-print upholstery and dark, wooden interiors. However, what we love most about this classy joint is that it caters to the non-meat eaters in your party too.

Perfect for an intimate dinner with a few friends, the Rib Room will make your night enjoyable with its luxuriously prepared steaks that ooze out sensational flavours and its nostalgic and upbeat live Jazz music.  

 

KatsuyaKatsuya

: Robata-grilled Wagyu Tenderloin Yakitori with Nikiri Soy.

If you are feeling a little experimental, we suggest you go for a different take on steak. We already know that the Japanese are experts in their cattle, with the premium Wagyu kind originating from that country; Katsuya will reaffirm that Japanese meat preparation is equally superb.

When tired from a day of shopping, head over to this restaurant (which will transport you out of the mall-like feel), go easy on the sushi, no matter how delicious it is, and indulge in the explode-in-you-mouth flavours of their Robata meats. Robata-style grilling is similar to barbecue: skewered meats are slow-grilled over hot charcoal. The result is a clunky, meaty Wagyu that cuts like butter and tastes immensely gratifying.

 

FogueiraFogueira

Recommended dish: the Brazilian Picanha (Beef Rump Cap)

A churrascaria in Portuguese is a place where meats are cooked in a churrasco, or a barbecue. Popular in Brazil, these places are becoming increasingly prominent in Dubai, but Fogueira certainly takes the cake in this department.

This family-friendly joint is bang on the money with its warm and bright interiors, its chirpy and pleasant service, and its no-frills, scrumptious fodder. The passadores (waiting staff) will serve you beautifully seared, luscious meat, hot off the grill. Infused with subtle salty flavours, the steak is beautifully meaty on the outside and perfectly pink on the inside, offset by the juicy caramelized pineapples which serve as a delicious palate cleanser between courses. This tableside carving rodizio experience is unforgettable, which makes Fogueira a highly recommended place in our list.
