Dining Options during Ramadan in Dubai

29 Jun, 2014 / Posted By Mayuri

The holy month of Ramadan brings about some fairly substantial changes to the dining scene in Dubai. During this time eating and drinking in public, before sunset is not allowed and the majority of restaurants change their hours of operation so that they open just before sunset (just after 7pm), alternatively they provide food for delivery only before sunset.

During Ramadan evenings are very much a family affair and whilst alcohol will be served at venues with a license, after sunset, loud music is not allowed, expect instead more traditional live music or low levels of background music, experience Ramadan more traditionally by spending time with family and friends perhaps indulging in shisha or a game of cards or board games which are popular during this time.

Hotel Dining

Every hotel will have one restaurant open for all day dining for residents and non residents, expect the restaurant to be screened off from public view. Typically the restaurant will serve an International menu.

Iftar Menus

Many restaurants serve special Ramadan Iftar menus during Ramadan with options for celebrating the end of the fast with Iftar buffets or special Iftar set menus. Later in the evening most venues will also have Suhoor options available too which are typically A La Carte sometimes with minimum spend requirements depending on venue. Restaurants with Iftar Menus are highlighted here >>

Most restaurants who don’t have a Ramadan licence for daytime dining offer delivery service so you can dine at home. Restaurants operating delivery services are here >>

Independent Restaurants

We’ve highlighted some of the independent restaurants and cafes who have a special Ramadan license which allows them to serve food (not alcohol) throughout the day. Whether you are entertaining business clients, or out and about with the family, or just fancying a coffee with friends there’s something here for everyone and here are some of our favourites.
