SMK (Smoked Meat Kitchen), will brush the sand off its boards when it opens at Jumeirah’s La Mer this month. The beach-side dining destination features a menu of smoked meat, created by UK Smoke Master, Luke Tully.

The destination itself, La Mer, will innovatively combine upscale living with distinctive retail and leisure attractions, integrated outdoor living environment and engaging beach activities. The project will also launch a range of retail and F&B concepts, some of which will mark their foray into Dubai, one of which is SMK.

SMK serves up slow-cooked meat smoked over English oak, and topped off with homemade rubs to season the cuts. The cooking process is by smoking, rather than direct grilling, which allows the meat to become tender and succulent.

The signature dish from SMK will be the Brisket Bun, served with pickled red chilli, which adds a fruity heat to the tender brisket, served in a specially baked bun, while those that prefer a little more meat, can opt for the dry aged beef ribs, topped off with pickled red chilli.

The team at SMK have been trained at London’s Smokestak, under the tutelage of David Carter, an innovator in this culinary field. Luke Tully will take over the reins at SMK Dubai, after working with Carter for the last three years.

The space at La Mer will have an inviting outdoor seating area, through a smart and simple design space, taking elements of the smoker train as its influence. The natural and minimal interior will allow the food to take centre stage, while furnishings will be simplistic and urban in look and feel.
