Known as the National Dish of Egypt however isn't in origin came from the Indian dish “Kitchiri” meaning a dish with rice and lentils

Was brought by British Army to Egypt in the early 20th Century during WW II

Was considered to be filling, delicious, and most importantly safe to eat for the British during their time
became immensly popular in Egypt

Is a great example of what happens when cultures mix

Is described as a simple taste of workingman's lunch

Consists of pasta and tomato sauce, among other items, including rice, lentils, caramelized onions, garlic and chickpeas. Having four sources of carbohydrates has made it the most popular lunch item in most common food outlets in Egypt for over 100 years
